2026 Engineers, Architects & Surveyors Legislative Day
2026 Engineers, Architects & Surveyors Legislative Day
April 30 in Lansing
Thursday, April 30, 2026 | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Michigan State Capitol (Heritage Hall), Lansing
One of the most important advocacy events of the year for Michigan's engineering, architecture, and surveying community is just weeks away. The 2026 Engineers, Architects & Surveyors Legislative Committee (AESLC) Legislative Day will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing. This annual event is a joint effort organized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/Michigan), the American Institute of Architects Michigan (AIA Michigan), the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE), and the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS) — and we strongly encourage all members to attend.
This in-person event provides a direct opportunity for engineers, architects, and surveyors to meet face-to-face with their elected representatives, discuss the issues shaping Michigan's infrastructure and design profession, and ensure that the collective voice of our community is heard as major policy decisions are debated this session. Meetings with your elected representatives will be scheduled for you.
There is no cost to attend. A $100 contribution to the ACEC/Michigan PAC is suggested and can be made by personal credit card or personal check at the time of registration or directly at acecmi.org/pac-information.
Key Issues for 2026
This year's Legislative Day will focus on several high-priority issues directly affecting Michigan's engineering, architecture, and surveying community, including:
- Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS) for state agencies
- Speaker Hall's proposed Service Tax
- State Historic Preservation Tax Credit
- Modernization of the State Plane Coordinate System
As engineers, architects, and surveyors, our community brings unique technical expertise to policy conversations — and the Legislature values that perspective. Legislative Day is an opportunity to translate that expertise into direct advocacy at the Capitol.
Pre-Event Webinar: Legislative Day 101
To help participants prepare for their legislative meetings, ACEC/Michigan will host a preparatory webinar on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The webinar will provide background on the key issues, an overview of the legislative landscape, and practical talking points to help participants feel confident and prepared heading into their Capitol meetings. You can RSVP for both the webinar and Legislative Day using the registration link below.
Legislative Reception
Following Legislative Day meetings, our lobbyist, Kelley Cawthorne, will host an in-person reception at their Lansing office for those able to stay. This informal gathering provides an excellent opportunity to continue conversations with legislators and colleagues in a relaxed setting. There is no charge to attend the reception.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Sponsorships are available at $350 and provide a valuable opportunity for firms to demonstrate leadership in supporting Michigan's design and infrastructure community while engaging directly with state lawmakers. ACEC/Michigan, AIA Michigan, MSPE, and MSPS collectively organize this event, and sponsor support helps all four organizations offset the costs of this important advocacy day. Firms interested in sponsoring should complete and return the sponsorship form by April 15, 2026.
