ACEC leaders from across the Midwest gathered in Chicago on July 14–15 for the 2026 “Center of the Country, Center of the Conversation” Midwest Meeting. Hosted at the Union League Club of Chicago, the event provided member organization and firm leaders with an opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss regional priorities and strengthen relationships across state lines.

Representing ACEC/Michigan were Chuck Gemayel, President of the ACEC/Michigan Board of Directors; Matt Stacey, President-Elect; Jon Kramer, National Director; Ron Brenke, Executive Director; and Troy Hagon, Deputy Director.

The meeting began with an evening of networking and fellowship, including a Taste of Chicago dinner at Cliff Dwellers, a presentation by Chicago historian Dilla and views of Grant Park, Millennium Park, Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline from the terrace.

The following day featured a full agenda of presentations and collaborative discussions. Participants received updates from ACEC’s National Executive Committee and National PAC Board before turning their attention to the programs, priorities and experiences of Midwest member organizations. ACEC/Michigan Executive Director Ron Brenke joined Chris Klein of ACEC Wisconsin in leading a discussion about their respective state organizations.

ACEC/Michigan National Director Jon Kramer and Laura McGovern of ACEC Illinois also facilitated a review and discussion of a survey of Midwest member firms. Additional sessions explored effective public relations and public affairs strategies, ways engineering professionals can leverage their expertise to build confidence and shape public narratives, and the resources available through the ACEC Business Insurance, Retirement and Life/Health Trusts.

The meeting concluded with a conversation about emerging issues affecting engineering firms and ACEC organizations throughout the region. The two-day gathering reinforced the value of collaboration among Midwest member organizations as they work to address shared challenges, communicate the importance of the engineering industry and deliver greater value to their members.
