As we move into our new fiscal year starting on July 1, 2025, we are proud to share an update on the progress we’ve made and the exciting work ahead. From organizational growth and new leadership to legislative advocacy and enhanced member tools, ACEC/Michigan remains focused on delivering value to you, your firm, and the engineering profession across Michigan.
We've created a short video highlighting just a few of the many ways ACEC/Michigan has been working for you over the past year. For a more in-depth insight, please continue reading.
Membership & Billing Updates
We are pleased to introduce Sara VanOver, ACEC/Michigan’s new bookkeeper. Members will begin receiving invoices and statements from Sara moving forward.
- FY26 Member Firm Dues (July–June) are based on employee counts submitted in May. While ACEC/Michigan is holding state dues steady, ACEC National will implement a 2.5% dues increase plus a 2.7% CPI adjustment.
- Affiliate Member Dues will increase from $500 to $600 for FY26.
A New Digital Experience for Members
This spring, ACEC/Michigan launched a refreshed website and a new Member Center (Info Hub) at www.acecmi.org, designed to better serve members and their firms. The updated tools offer:
- A modern, mobile-friendly interface with improved navigation
- An intuitive event calendar and streamlined registration process
- An enhanced career center and searchable member directory
- Access to firm profiles and contact management
- Tools to join committees, manage subscriptions, and more
We encourage all members to log in, explore the new features, and ensure their contact information is up to date to make the most of these enhancements.
Growth Across the Industry
The past year has seen notable expansion across ACEC/Michigan member firms. In total, member firms added 546 full-time employees, bringing the ACEC/Michigan community to 8,850 professionals across 103 member firms and more than 30 affiliate members.
The pace of mergers and acquisitions also remained steady, reflecting a dynamic and evolving industry landscape.
New Leadership, New Momentum
In August 2024, ACEC/Michigan welcomed Troy Hagon as Deputy Director. Formerly Director of Governmental Affairs for MDOT, Troy has already made a significant impact by:
- Strengthening workforce development initiatives
- Updating the QBS Coalition Bylaws
- Supporting strategic PAC growth and legislative outreach
Under his leadership:
- Over $36,000 was raised for the State PAC
- Over $31,000 was raised for the National PAC
Troy also leads the newly formed Water & Wastewater Committee, which has engaged key leaders from EGLE, MDOT, and other agencies to address industry challenges and regulatory developments.
Emerging Leaders, Engaged Members
The application period for ACEC/Michigan’s Emerging Leaders Program has closed, with 25 outstanding participants selected for this year’s cohort. This program underscores ACEC/Michigan’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of industry leaders.
Partnerships that Drive Progress
ACEC/Michigan continues to strengthen relationships with key agencies and industry partners:
- The MDOT-ACEC Partnering Workshop expanded into the Lansing Center exhibit hall to accommodate increased participation.
- The 60th Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala, held at the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, achieved record attendance.
- The Michigan Infrastructure Conference, co-hosted with ASCE, continued to set new standards for professional development and networking.
Advocacy in Action
As Michigan’s Legislature continues work on the state budget, ACEC/Michigan remains focused on advocating for increased transportation infrastructure funding.
Earlier this year, ACEC/Michigan was awarded a $70,000 National Minuteman Fund grant to support a statewide public relations campaign—developed in partnership with Harbor Strategic—to elevate infrastructure investment as a top priority.
In addition, ACEC/Michigan is advancing Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS) legislation. Representative Parker Fairbairn (Harbor Springs) is preparing to introduce legislation that would require state agencies to use QBS when procuring professional design services, an essential step toward promoting quality, transparency, and fairness in public procurement.
National Representation
ACEC/Michigan is proud to announce that Andy McCune, CEO of Wade Trim, has been elected to a two-year term as Vice Chair of the ACEC National Executive Committee, further strengthening Michigan’s leadership and representation on the national stage.
